This Fargo t-shirt features an image of Marge Gunderson posing in her Brainerd police uniform. The shirt includes the message at the beginning of the film: "This IS A TRUE STORY. The events depicted in this film took place in Minnesota in 1987. At the request of the survivors, the names have been changed. Out of respect for the dead, the rest has been told exactly as it occurred."

In Fargo, Jerry Lundegaard is a car salesman in Minneapolis who has gotten himself into debt and is so desperate for money that he hires two criminals to kidnap his own wife. Jerry will collect the ransom from her wealthy father, pay the criminals a small portion and keep the rest to satisfy his debts. The scheme collapses when the criminals go on a violent rampage, and Marge Gunderson has to try to stop the kidnappers.
